Are Le Creuset dishes worth the money?
Yes, we believe buying a Le Creuset product is worth the money as it’ll last years and years – thanks to it’s lifetime guarentee promise. The reason it’s an expensive brand is because its products are high quality and boast a stellar global reputation amongst both professional and home chefs.
According to Le Creuset, production of each product is thorough and meticulous. Each piece of cookware takes at least 10 hours to make and involves 12 different steps to ensure a perfect product. For example, their cast pieces are made from the highest grade iron possible and are developed by a fresh sand mold that’s smoothed by hand. It’s then enameled with three coatings to ensure that it won’t chip or crack and will stand the test of time. Hence the lifetime guarantee.
It’s then inspected by 15 different people before it’s given the sign-off to be sold. And if there are any imperfections – it’ll be melted back down and the iron reused to make other products.
As you can probably tell by now, the majority of Le Creuset production still features human intervention and craftsmanship, which is undoubtedly something a lot of Le Creuset fans love about the brand. This does however add to the expense.
Each piece is also enitrely unique – with the brand sticking to the same methods it started with back in 1925. This again comes with a price.
Le Creuset adds; “Le Creuset have been making world-class cookware for almost 100 years. Used by leading chefs and keen cooks around the globe, Le Creuset cookware offers outstanding performance time after time. As we believe in giving you uncompromising quality, our product ranges come with the following guarantees.”
The brand’s colours have also earned a legion of fans. Whether that’s the classic ‘volcanic’ orange or modern hues like duck egg blue or stylish satin black. These have led to some pots becoming collector’s items. Indeed, Marilyn Monroe was a famous fan who owned a 12-piece Le Creuset cookware set in Elysees Yellow (a colour that’s since been discontinued). And low and behold it sold for an eye-watering $25,330 at a New York auction in 1999.
Can Le Creuset casserole dishes go in the oven?
In a nutshell – yes, Le Creuset casserole dishes can go in the oven. Le Creuset.co.uk says that their pans from the Signature range, which come with black phenolic lid knobs, are heat-resistant in the oven up to 250°C. Others, like those with integral cast iron handles or stainless steel knobs, can be used at any oven temperature and those with wooden handles or knobs should not go in the oven at all.
They also say, “Do not place any cookware on the floors of ovens with cast iron linings. This will increase the cooking temperature inside the oven, resulting in an increased cooking rate with detrimental effects on food. Do not drag cookware across the floor of the liners. For best results always place on a shelf or rack.”
What can you cook in a Le Creuset dish?
Typically you associate Le Creuset casserole dishes with making a casserole or stew, however, this cast iron enamel cookware can be used for a range of different cooking techniques such as baking bread, braising meat, or even deep-frying.
It’s not just Le Creuset casserole dishes that can lend a hand in the kitchen. The brand’s cast iron cookware extends pie dishes, kettles, saucepans, cutlery, mixing bowls, and more. Not forgetting their high-quality, stainless steel collection.
Is Le Creuset dishwasher safe?
If you’re wondering how to clean Le Creuset cookware you’ll be glad to know that majority of this range is dishwasher safe. Not only it is dishwasher safe but can be used in the oven, and microwave as well as fridge and freezer.
According to the Le Creuset care and use guide; “Each piece from our extensive range of high-quality cookware is designed for versatility and ease of use.”
